"Nail"
Got a real lead this time — a fence who moved gear for him swears Kuro's not stealing for profit at all. Says he gives most of it away.
PILOT
That doesn't match a mercenary with no side.
"Nail"
No, it matches someone who never had a home to begin with, taking pieces of everyone else's and seeing what fits. I've met guys like that. Usually I liked them more than I wanted to.

After floor 14· beat 2

Kuro
You're getting better at this. Almost had me back there.
PILOT
Almost. Why are you letting us get close at all?
Kuro
Because it's been a long time since anyone was actually worth the trouble of running from. Enjoy it while it lasts — I'm not planning to make the finish easy.

"Nail"
the fence I leaned on says kuro gives most of his haul away. refugee camps, gutted colonies, one orphanage that now owns a military-grade generator. our terrifying ghost is running a CHARITY.
PILOT
That is not charity, exactly. That is someone paying down a debt only he can see.
"Nail"
kid, I know exactly three people who talk like that, and I have watched two of them die making the last payment. catch him BEFORE he gets to the end of the ledger, yeah?

After floor 5· beat 2

Kuro
You interviewed my fence. That is genuinely good work. He talks too much, by the way. I only tipped him for the silence he did not keep.
PILOT
If you want us to stop learning things about you, you could just say less.
Kuro
I could. Where is the fun in being unknowable if nobody is trying to know you?
"Nail"
write that one down, kid. that is the loneliest sentence anyone has ever said in my channel.

After floor 10· beat 3

PILOT
He let us within visual range today. That is three hundred meters closer than last week. He is not running anymore - he is walking us in.
"Nail"
walking us in to WHAT is the question that keeps me employed and awake.
